Exergen Thermometer

Battle Illness with Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer

Exergen Thermometer

When I was a kid, the digital thermometers that were used in the ear came out in wide release.  I have to admit, I thought that was the coolest thing ever!  You can take my temperature by sticking this in my ear for a couple seconds rather than holding this thing in my mouth for three minutes?!  SOLD!

As an adult, I still thought the ear thermometers were a great idea.  Until I discovered the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer.   The Exergen thermometer takes your temperature by running it across the forehead.

Holiday Checklist Cards

Paper Culture for Christmas & Holiday Cards

Holiday Checklist Cards

In the last few years, there’s been a proliferation of places to get customized printing done & stationery made.  One of the most popular things to get done is either announcements or holiday cards, usually with your own photos incorporated.  Paper Culture is one such company that I was totally unfamiliar with.

While you can upload your photos to their cards to make them more personal, they have tons that you don’t have to upload a photo to, as well.  I’m going to admit it – I would feel weird sending out Christmas Cards that are a picture of me, since I don’t have kids!  And I’m sure people that were on the receiving end might think that was a bit odd too.

DIY Marble faux finish cigar box from Giani

Marble Faux Finish Cigar Box and Frame

DIY Marble faux finish cigar box from Giani

Faux finishing has been around for a really long time now.  For some reason, I’ve never ever been able to figure it out.  I’ve always been one of those people that’s like “Uh, it only looks easy.  There‘s gotta be a trick to it that these experts just aren’t sharing.”

When Giani  reached out and asked if I wanted to take their faux marble finish kit for a test drive, I was totally like “sure!”  Their kits are designed to redo the counters in your house.  However, I rent, and well, I would like to get my security deposit back.

I decided I was going to use the kit on a table or another piece of furniture and set off on an expedition.  After looking for about a month, and not finding anything that really fit or was in my price range, I decided to go for the next best thing.  I chose a couple of accessories to add a faux marble finish – a cigar box and a picture frame.

Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler

Make Recycling Easy with Rubbermaid

Rubbermaid has all kinds of products that make my life easier.  Storage totes? Check.  Plastic food storage?  Yup.  We even used to have one of those locking cabinets for our deck.  When they asked me if I’d like to check out their new Hidden Recycler, of course I said yes.

The Hidden Recycler is a compact recycling system that fits under your counter, inside a cabinet.  It attaches to the cabinet door with hooks, or you can screw it in for a more permanent installation.  The fabric bag holds up to 36 12-oz cans.  You can even fit a plastic milk jug in it.

How well does it work, though?  That’s the real question!

Noodle and Boo Baby skincare

Noodle and Boo Luxury Baby Products

Noodle and Boo is a high end baby care line.  Consisting of items ranging from shampoos, lotions, and body washes to stuffed animals, towels, and grooming sets, there’s something for everyone.   This is a line that has been used by many celebrities, including Jennifer Garner, Brooke Shields, and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Their Super Soft Lotion is ahhh…mazing!  It’s very lightweight, so it soaks in quickly.  And it will leave your skin baby-soft.  Ba-dum-bump-ching! One of the features that I really liked is that there was no greasy feeling.  Just nice, soft skin.  And of course, that good baby smell!  It didn’t smell too much, though.  It’s just sort of sweet and gentle instead of overpowering.

Noodle and Boo also sent along a Newborn 2 in 1 hair and body wash.  This is designed to gently cleanse baby’s hair and body without stripping the natural moisture from baby‘s tender skin.  I didn‘t notice a scent on this one at all – maybe a really really faint scent.  Admittedly, I didn’t try this one out.

Cranberry Almond Chocolate bar from Endangered Species

Endangered Species Chocolate

Mmmm…Chocolate.   Personally, I prefer dark chocolate.  I like the snappier texture.  I also like that dark chocolate is generally not as sweet.   It’s not like I’m going to pass up lighter, sweeter, milk chocolate, either.

What’s better than Chocolate?  Maybe chocolate that gives back?  I recently received an assortment of chocolate bars from Endangered Species.  Their treats are gluten free and Kosher.  The dark chocolate is vegan, as well.

First up was Dark Chocolate with Forest Mint.   I found this one to be okay.  The dark chocolate was alright, the mint flavor wasn’t really there.  At 72% Cacao, this is a strong dark chocolate flavor.

Next up was Natural Milk Chocolate.  It was creamy, smooth, and sweet.

Last, but not least, was my favorite of the group.  Dark Chocolate with Cranberries and Almonds.  It was the same dark chocolate of the mint bar, but with small pieces of cranberries and almonds embedded in it.

Endangered Species Chocolate gives back, too.  They donate 10% of their net profits to conservation programs. All of their ingredients are sourced from ethically traded cacao farms ensuring fair trade, responsible labor practices and sustainable farming.  Pretty cool, eh?

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some chocolate calling my name.

Yummy Earth Sour Jellybeans

Yummy Earth Eco Friendly Candy

I recently had the opportunity to try out a couple of new taste treats from Yummy Earth Organics.   Sour Worms and Sour Jellybeans.

First up was the Sour Jellybeans.  I was a little concerned when they said sour.  I popped a couple in my mouth .  I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were tart, but not especially sour.  More like tart fruit.  I can dig it!  These were intensely flavorful, like high end jellybeans.

I waited a couple days, then ripped open the Sour Worms.  I was really leery of these, as they had the citric acid crystals on them, like other kinds of sour candy.  They also didn’t feel very soft in the package.  Hmmm…these are gonna be kind of intense.  When I pulled them out, I was pleasantly surprised to find out the Sour Worms were really soft and fresh.  I ate one.  And then another.  A few more.  And one or two more.  These had an intense fruit flavor and weren’t sour at all.

Dawgs Z Strap Sandals

Give Your Dogs a Break With Dawgs Footwear

In my younger years, I did some serious damage to my foot. I’m still not sure how it happened – everyone in the family has their own theory, and it’s become quite the running gag. Oh, you’re injured? Are you at least aware of how you injured yourself? Family members are soooo cute, aren’t they?
Because of this, I’m kind of selective about the shoes I wear. It’s not that I don’t crave to wear flippy, flirty little ballet shoes or sky high stilettos, it’s that unless they’re really well engineered, I simply can’t.
When I was contacted by Dawgs Canada to review their shoes, I was a little hesitant. Until I went and really checked out their site, that is. Once I got there, I realized that their shoes were engineered for support and ergonomic comfort. Ooohhh…I could do that! After much comparison, and polling a random assortment of people in my office that day, I chose a pair of the Z Strap Sandals in Navy/Lime.

Krill Oil

Krill Oil Review

I made asked my mom test this out.  This is her review.

I am getting older, and in the past couple of years, I am beginning to feel my age.  I am a vitamin taker, and when I was given the opportunity to try Krill Oil, I thought it might be a good supplement to add to my  diet. Krill oil is made from an Antarctic crustacean similar to a shrimp. Although Krill Oil and Fish Oil are similar in characteristics,  Krill Oil is higher in Omega-3 acids and is high is the good fats that our bodies need.  Krill Oil is also claimed to promote heart and joint health, and is high in anti-oxidants. It is also used in treating PMS and painful menstrual periods.  It is also promoted for brain and memory health, and a treatment for depression.

I’ve taken Krill Oil for over a month now, and I really don’t feel any different.  I’m sure  there are things going in within my body that I’m not aware of – the reduction of the artery-clogging fats, raising my ‘good cholesterol,’ and improving my joint health, but I’m not feeling any of that. I don’t feel more alert, smarter, in a better mood.  I do believe I will continue taking it for another month, and see if I feel any differently at that time.

A word of caution – Krill Oil should not be taken by those with shellfish allergies, pregnant women, or those whom have had surgery recently as Krill Oil can slow down blood clotting; it may cause bruising or bleeding if taken with a variety of medications, including ibuprofen and naproxen.  If you have any health issues, please contact your doctor prior to taking any supplement.  Also, there is some evidence that Krill Oil will interact with Orlistat (Alli, Xenical).

Baby Essentials Organic Cotton Baby Clothes

Eco Chic Fashions from Baby Essentials

I don’t exactly know what’s going on at work. There appears to be a baby boom in my office. I swear, at least half of the girls in the office are pregnant or have newborns. The only thing I can trace it back to is the fact that we recently changed our bottled water. Hmmm….
It has been non-stop baby showers and new baby gifts. I’m beginning to run out of ideas of things I can find in town. I wish I had known about Baby Essentials for the most recent shower.
Baby Essentials clothing items are ridiculously soft. A big reason why is the fact that they’re made from 100% organic cotton. The styles of the outfits are really cute – they’re  traditional infant items, but with a modern twist.
Suuthe by Mari all natural skincare

Take Care of Your Skin with Suuthe Skincare

If you’ve read my blog at all, you already know I’m a fair-skinned gal. Very fair. As I say to people “I’m a pale.” I also like to be outside, and I know when it’s been too long, as I turn lobstery.   Tan? Ohhhh….you mean freckles. Yep. I’m ‘tan.’
With fair skin also comes sensitivity. The sensitivity is not only to the sun, but to environmental factors. Soaps, chemicals, cleaners, some lotions, perfumes, even fabrics can cause problems for me.   However, I live for lotions, potions, cosmetics, and makeup. That’s part of the reason I was so glad to find Suuthe by Mari.
Suuthe is a great line of skincare items that are all natural. Not only that, they are designed especially for healing and repairing your damaged skin. Mari created this line to help soothe her baby’s delicate skin from eczema. It not only works for delicate baby skin, but us grown folk, too!
Vos Flips eco friendly slides

Vos Shoes are Beachy Keen

I love shoes – especially sandals.  Once the weather warms up, I can’t wait to break out the shorts, skirts,  and slide shoes.  During the season, I generally buy a couple pairs of nice leather sandals and a nice pair of shoes or sandals for the lake.  And I wear something inexpensive to the pool!

I was happy to find out about VOS Flips sandals.  They remind me a lot of the Flojos sandals that used to be so popular.   But with a couple of major changes – for the better!

Vos Sandals are ecologically and socially responsible shoes.  First off, they’re completely sustainable, as they’re made with natural rubber from the rubber tree, rather than from fossil fuels.  Second. they’re completely recyclable.  But it doesn’t end there!  Vos re-invests in the communities where they harvest their rubber.  They’ve provided health care and education to these communities.  And, if that wasn’t enough, for every pair of Vos Flips sold, they donate a pair to someone in need.

Peanut Butter Brownie Brittle

Brownie Brittle is Addictive

Brownies are one of my favorite things in the world. Probably top-5, and definitely in the top ten. When I first heard about Brownie Brittle, I was like “whhaaaaa????” I wasn’t sure if it was bits of brownie in a sugar brittle, like peanut brittle. Or maybe it was like brownie bites with brittle in them – like toffee brownies!
NO! It’s none of those things. Instead, Brownie Brittle is something I had never conceived of. It’s a really thin layer of brownie with stuff in it! Really, just like the name says – Brownie Brittle.
I received three different flavors – Peanut Butter Chip, Chocolate Chip, and Toffee. Now, it’s fairly well known that I have difficulty resisting anything that has both peanut butter and chocolate in it. Heck, I use that in my guest posting bios! I liked that the peanut butter chips almost gave it a lighter, less heavy taste. My pastry chef mom says that it almost tastes like meringue.
Nature's Sleep Memory Foam Slippers

Natures Sleep Now Makes Slippers – Who Knew

During the winter, I wear a lot of slippers. Well, I wear a couple pairs of slippers and a few pairs of slipper socks. Not all at the same time, though. Good slippers that are both warm and sturdy are surprisingly hard to find.
Nature’s Sleep, known for their amazing memory foam mattresses, have come out with these new slippers. They’re fleece lined with a velveteen or velour covering. One of the best parts, though, is that the insoles are memory foam, like the mattresses!
These slippers also have a non-slip sole. They almost look like you could wear them outdoors. Don’t wear them outdoors, though. Slippers aren’t appropriate footwear for shopping.
My only real complaint about these slippers is that I thought I ordered Mocha, and got a buff-camel color. It was also suggested that, since these are unisex, to order a size smaller. I ordered a medium and they’re a little snug. I normally wear a size 8.5 shoe.
Jungle Rose Romper from Vintage Couture

New Threads from Vintage Couture

I first encountered Vintage Couture at a ladies’ tea that I was attending. There were all these little girls wearing the most adorable cottage chic outfits. Tea roses and ruffles abounded. I commented on the outfits and was told, in that slow, southern drawl “They’re Vintage Couture, sug.”
Of course, I misunderstood, and took that to mean they were vintage, as in old, and couture, as in high end fashion. It was then explained that, no, Vintage Couture was a fashion line that was sold through home parties. We all had a good laugh, but I was intrigued!
I went home and started browsing. There were so many cute items. If I had kids, I would be in T-R-O-U-B-L-E. And they don’t just have clothes for girls. They have a selection of vintage styled boy clothes, too. Anyone that’s ever had to shop for a boy knows how difficult that can be. Vintage Couture has also recently added a line for the tweens called, appropriately enough, Drama Tween. Drama Tween melds the vintage style with trendy clothes. I’d totally wear some of those – if they made them in adult sizes!
Synthetic down pillows from Maggies Direct

Synthetic Down Pillows from Maggies Direct

A few months back, I stayed at a really amazing boutique hotel.  They had fantastic linens, feather beds, big poofy duvets, and a selection of pillows to choose from.  Ever since then, I’ve been working on transforming my own bed into that same type of Shangri-La.
I invested in some great sheets.  By pure happenstance, I acquired a big poofy duvet.  I already had a matelasse bedspread.  Really, all I was missing was some new pillows.  While cruising pillows at the local department stores and waiting for them to go on sale, I had almost decided which pillows I wanted.
It was during this time that I was contacted by Maggie’s Direct.  Maggie’s Direct is a company that sells all sorts of really wonderful items, most of them being goods for the home.  They wanted to offer me the opportunity to review some of their luxe bedding items.
Eco friendly Robby Wash Ball

Let Robby Do Your Laundry

Have you ever seen a Robby Wash Ball?  It’s a strange little gadget that kind of looks like a giant wiffle ball and is filled with what looks like tiny little smooth pebbles.   And you use it in your laundry, instead of soap.

I had seen this in stores a couple years back, and thought it was the oddest thing in the world.  How would it work?  There were no detergents.  No surfactants.  I’m so confused!

Well, it turns out that it works by creating ionized water, which manages to massage the dirt, grime and stuff out of your clothes.  I was really amazed at how well it worked for general cleaning.  I have really sensitive skin and generally have to run my laundry through the rinse cycle twice just to make sure all the soapy residue is rinsed out.  Not so with the Robby Wash Ball, as there’s no soap.
