I’ve been a lot of places in my life, but I’ve never spent much time in Texas. A few days here and there, but nothing substantial. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do is have a San Antonio vacation.
I have always like to travel. I’m sure that a big reason is because we went a lot of places when I was a kid. My mom was a big proponent of experiencing the area like the locals. We’d go off the beaten path and really see the area.
If I were planning a San Antonio vacation this year, the first place I would check out is the SAVE – San Antonio Vacation Experience program. SAVE has all fantastic discounts on all kinds of great attractions, as well as great deals on lodging at every price point. Here’s how I’d save money on my trip:
My San Antonio Vacation Itinerary!
1.) I’d scrimp on lodging. While staying in resorts is nice, a lot of times a budget motel is plenty good. I mean, we’re not spending that much time there. As long as it’s clean and safe, we’re good. If I was traveling with a family, I’d probably try to find a hotel that served hot breakfast, too, as that can shave quite a bit off your expenses.
2.) I’d look for discount attraction tickets. Sometimes you can get a package deal, or you can get discounted tickets after a certain time – like half price after 5pm.
3.) I’d go to a grocery store and stock up on some staples. Most rooms have mini fridges these days. Use them! Get some snacks, fresh fruit, and maybe your own soda. Save on those over-priced vending machine snacks.
As far as the itinerary goes for our San Antonio vacation, I think we’d have to mix in some educational stuff along with the amusement parks.
If you have young kids, the San Antonio Children’s Museum would be a must-visit. I have a confession to make. I love Children’s museums and sometimes I borrow children as an excuse to go. 20% off admission sounds pretty good, too.
We’d also pop into the Texas Institute of Cultures. As a history/anthro grad, do you really think I’d skip that? Uhh, not a chance! I’d drag the family, and they’d like it – if they know what’s good for them! Plus, it’s buy one ticket, get one free. Awesome!
You can’t go to San Antonio and not visit the Alamo! So we’d definitely go there, maybe even take an Alamo helicopter tour that‘s discounted by 10%.
I’m a big fan of artisan goods and unique items, so we’d probably have to make a stop at the Shops in La Villita. La Villita is an historic arts village. Can. Not. Resist. Plus a free gift when you make a purchase? Even better!
Of course, we’d have to mix in some amusement parks. I think that Schlitterbahn would be a must-see. They’ve recently opened The Falls, which is the longest waterpark ride in the world, at 3600 feet. Whoa! I’ve seen features on Schlitterbahn on TV, and it looks awesome! You get $2 off per ticket with SAVE, too.
And we can’t miss Six Flags Fiesta Texas. At one point in time, I had a plan to hit every Six Flags location in the US. I think they expanded rapidly since then, and the plan has gone by the wayside. But a girl’s gotta have a dream, right? With lots of discounts, there’s bound to be something that works for you.
Phwew. That’s a jam-packed week or so on a San Antonio vacation with a big discount! Don't forget to check for Limited Time Offers. Connect with @SAVEinSA on twitter, too.
