9 Housekeeping tips for real people

I have a confession to make.  I am a messy person.  As much as I don’t want to admit it, I really am.   To keep everything from falling down on me, and to be, y’know, like a regular human, I participate in some cleaning shortcuts.  That’s right!

Here are some of my Housekeeping Tips

Make your bed in the morning.  This is mainly to prevent myself from going and climbing back into bed every day, but yeah.  Make your bed and get ready for the day!

Make sure your dishes are done.  I have a dishwasher, so that simply means loading and unloading it for me.  But it’s a huge sense of accomplishment.

If you spill something, wipe it up!  This has to be one of my absolute biggest pet peeves.  That, and use a coaster or something when you have a beverage that’s going to sweat.

Vacuum regularly.  I vacuum once a week.  If you have a dog or cat, or a family. you may want to do this twice a week.

I loathe cleaning the bathroom.  Did you know that once you clean your shower, you can apply a little car wax to the tiles?  It will help prevent soap scum and hard water spots.  If you have one of those fancy clear glass shower doors, squeegee it after your shower and you won’t have to clean it nearly as often.

Cleaning windows can be a chore.  And I almost always get streaks.  If you wipe in a vertical direction on the inside  and a horizontal direction on outside, you’ll be able to tell where the streaks are coming from.

De-clutter.  I know, this is kind of a massive task, but really – you’ll feel so much better when you don’t have to work around the excess stuff.  Put the good stuff away, get rid of the stuff you no longer want.

Use an old sock on your hand for dusting.  Yep yep.  Microfiber cloths are also great, as are micro fiber mops for high places.

Get into a routine.  My grandmother used to clean on Saturdays, and I always thought that was the biggest waste.  I so don’t want to kick my weekend off like that!  So, I do a lot of my cleaning on Thursday.  That’s not gonna crimp my weekend style!
