I don’t know about your family, but if they’re anything like mine, we have all kinds of recipes that are “super secret.”  In our family’s case, you’re only allowed to know about the recipe if you are deemed worthy. Since I’m sort of a black sheep, I don’t think I’m ever going to get to know any of the recipes!

That’s where Tastebook comes in!

What’s Tastebook, you ask?

Tastebook is a new service from Random House.  What it is is a custom cookbook that you can create fro your friends and family.  Simply upload your images, input your recipes, and create your book.  Easy peasy, right?

But, I’m not so good at graphic design

It’s okay!  Tastebook literally walks you through the process, step by step.  You create a collection.  Next, add recipes that are your family’s favorites and upload your images.  OR add some recipes from Tastebook’s vast selection that are available for purchase.  Of course, you can’t have a random jumble of miscellaneous recipes now, can ya?  Nope, that would never work!  Once you’ve chosen your recipes, divide them into chapters.  You can organize this in any way you’d like.  By food type like appetizers, desserts, etc. By who the recipe is from – like Aunt Nancy, Grandma, Uncle Ned, etc. However you want!

When you’re done with that, you go into the designer to create a cover and a dedication page.

This Tastebook Custom Cookbook sounds awesome!  How much does it cost?

Tastebook starts at $25, and includes 25 recipes.  Do you have more than 25 recipes you want to add?  That’s not a problem! You can add additional recipes for $0.20 each, up to 100 total recipes!  Crazy, right?  I know quite a few people in my family would love a Tastebook for Christmas.

I don’t Have Time to Create a Tastebook

Not a problem!  Tastebook has curated several popular themes into pre-printed books that are ready to purchase.  These pre-made Tastebooks have 50 recipes and come in themes like Weddings, Kids in The Kitchen, and Gluten Free.

Have you ever made a custom cookbook?  Who would you buy a Tastebook for?

I have never made one, but I have been fortunate enough to have access to several family members cookbooks. I would love to make one to be able to give to my son full of the family recipes that he grew up with and loves.

Ah,yes. The internet has made self publishing into an art form. This would be great for passing along family recipes.
