It’s summer, and most of the fall shows are on hiatus. While there are lots of great summer shows on, it’s also a great time to catch up on TV shows that you may have missed. These are my top 5 tv shows to catch up on this summer.
If you haven’t been watching Scandal, you need to! It’s such a well-written show, full of intrigue, espionage, and unexpected plot twists around every corner. Olivia Pope is a fixer, or a person that takes care of problems. As the head of a crisis management firm, she’s part CIA agent, part spy, part therapist, part PR person. It’s intense, and you’ll never look at politics the same way again.
Hart of Dixie
This is an hour long dramedy. Rachel Bilson is Zoe Hart, a doctor from New York who discovers that her estranged father has left her his practice in a small town in the deep south. The show is lighthearted and full of quirky characters. If you like Pretty Little Liars or Gilmore Girls, you’ll love Hart of Dixie. You can drop in to the show at just about any point and be up to speed fairly quickly. This clip really sets up the whole series & identifies the main players.
You don’t have to watch Parenthood from the beginning, but it helps. The show just wrapped up its second season, and has about 10-14 episodes a season. While it’s based on the fantastic movie, the show really is veeerrrryyyyyyy different, and much more adult, as in grown up.
The Mindy Project
I wasn’t sure how well I’d like The Mindy Show, and I have to admit that I thought Mindy Kaling leaving The Office was a bit of a mistake. Holy moly, was I totally wrong!! The Mindy Project is a pretty fantastic show. They’ve taken the best features and characteristics of Kelly Kapoor and made her a smart, somewhat edgy doctor. It’s okay to be smart and love pop culture and gossip, too. And it’s okay not to settle for less than you want. Plus, the supporting cast is pretty great.
This show has taken so many winding twists, turns, and switchbacks, that I don’t have a clue what’s going on any longer. It doesn’t help that they’d run the show for a few weeks, pre-empt it for a couple weeks, run an episode or two, then take it off the air again for a month. I kinda gave up on it, but I want to know what the heck is happening, since I’ve heard that the show is going back towards its roots for season 3. This clip is from an Australian tv network, but it was the best clip I could find. Season 2 didn’t make much sense, and the clip doesn’t either! Gotta figure this out!!
Sooo…what are your tv shows to catch up on this summer? Any good recommendations?
