I used zero wrapping paper this Christmas – we've been recycling fabric gift bags, baskets and sturdy boxes for several years now.  If you're giving some kitchen items, for instance, you can wrap them in a new kitchen towel or a bath set can be made into a simple origami design.

Cut your steel pads in half with your kitchen shears.  It doubles the number of pads you use for cleaning around the house and it sharpens your shears!

upcycle items such as pallets and drawer pulls to make cute coat racks out of items that would otherwise go to the landfills.

Soak a cloth in home-made fabric softener – let it dry completely and it can be used as a dryer sheet for  many loads.

Grow at least a portion of your own food. If you live in an apartment you can do your gardening in containers. High Mowing Organic Seeds is a great source for 100% organic vegetable, herb, and flower seeds!

recycle everything you can. Cardboard, all plastics and metal, newspapers and magazines..and rinse out the cans/cartons before you throw them in the bin, it's the polite thing to do! ;)  I agree about steam mops, they are amazing. And re-using gift bags, we do that as well. But all of this has been said! Hmm. Make sure to use re-usable cloths for cleaning rather than paper towels!

My eco friendly tip is to is to use common household ingredients for cleaning (baking soda, cider vinegar, peroxide, etc.) instead of buying toxic, expensive cleaners.

Bathe the puppy dogs in dawn… kills fleas and not as harmful to pets as the chemicals in flea & tick shampoos

  9. Jenniffer Griffin says

Recycle your ribbon at Christmas by rolling it up and putting it with your Christmas supplies for next year.

Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth!

When we go hiking, we always bring a small trash bag with us.   People don't mind taking things in with them, but they don't always pack it out.  We always end up bringing out a bag full of stuff that doesn't belong along the trail.

vodka can be used a  air fresher… spay it on couches and carpets… drys clean and defuses smell… and excess coffee grounds can be composted into your flower bed/soil.
