Recently, as part of the Miami Book Fair International, I had the opportunity to interview several authors. Anne Byrn, author of several books, and known as the Cake Mix Doctor, was one of the authors.
Her newest book is Unbelievably Gluten-Free: 128 Delicious Recipes: Dinner Dishes You Never Thought You'd Be Able to Eat Again. How did someone whose built their reputation on baking cakes write a gluten-free cookbook? Find out!
Q: What inspired you to write Unbelievably Gluten Free?
A: My readers, I received e-mails as early as 2006 about creating gluten free recipes. It was a brand new experience for me and I gained a new perspective on gluten-free foods.
Q: What do you hope people get from your book?
A: I hope people get new and fresh ideas of how to make gluten-free meals inexpensively and quickly to feed a busy family.
Q: Do you have future writing plans?
A: Yes, but I can’t divulge too much. I’m working on a new, not gluten-free, cookbook.
Q: What would you like your audience to know about you?
A: I love reader input via e-mail and from book signings. I use their ideas for my books.
Q: What was your favorite part in writing this book?
A: The trial and error. I test out all my own recipes and when I made the gluten-free angel food cake it was perfection, I was amazed.
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not writing or cooking?
A: I like to play tennis.
Q: Absolute favorite food?
A: Peanut butter; I love having a spoonful when I get hungry between meals. Or I eat it on crackers or with bananas. As a mom it’s an easy snack.
Q: What are 5 items every person should have in their kitchen?
A: Well, it depends on if you are cooking or baking. If you are baking you really need an electric mixer, cake pans, chocolate, vanilla and measuring cups.
