Kristin over at Mama Luvs Books had this great post about her 5 favorite kitchen gadgets. Hers are all from Pampered Chef. Now, I’ve never been to a Pampered Chef party or even seen a catalog. I lead a sheltered life, I know. I started thinking about the items I use that I just take for granted.
1. A mandolin slicer. I would be totally lost without this. Mine is plastic, and I would really love love love a stainless steel one.
2. A really good whisk. I know, this sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. With good basics, you can do wonders in the kitchen.
3. A Garlic Press. Yes, this has become passé, with everyone deciding that they’re going to chop or dice their garlic by hand. Why is that, exactly? I know that a press kind of pulverizes the garlic, but it’s so much easier!
4. Good Measuring Cups and Spoons. Simple tools make the difference. You won’t believe how much measuring cups and spoons can differ in their measurements. I have a stainless steel set of each. I like these, as they come really, really clean.
A sA Serrated knife. Slice bread. Slice tomatoes. Slice your fingers. Wait – don’t do that last one. Good knives are important, but most people can get by with just a few.
